Identifying soldier

Article about: I noticed the bullet hole but no stain, thought it was used for target practice at one time. The one eagle insignia has stains on it . These items were not stored well and left in the bottom

Thought someone would help me. I belong to a Historical society and this information was among uniforms that were donated. To me it looked like souvenirs brought back from the battlefield. I would like to identify the individual and his unit if possible. Can anyone help

    Thanks

    Welcome Bob,

His name is Hans Schmidt and he was in the Luftwaffe as a 'flyer'. The collar tab and eagle are Heer (Army) pattern so unlikely to belong to the owner of the Soldbuch......

For more information I will leave to those who know their way around a Soldbuch.

Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....

Adrian, Can you identify his next of kin from page 5. I found a site that explains the Soldbuch (http://www.soldbuchweb.com/sbpg02.htm) and the next of kin was mentioned on that page.

Thanks for your help, now I have to do the genealogy. Any suggestions would be great. I have only done Irish and Polish Genealogy.

His Mother was Veronika Schmidt, born Heidrich in the town of Bad Ems. The street name is damaged, but it might be something like Furssenberg 19(?).

It looks like Hans went to Para school on 4th April 1944. I can't read the following entry.

Has anyone noticed what appears to be a bullet hole through the centre of the soldbuch? Maybe one reason this was picked up as a macabre souvenir? Is it through and through Bob?

    Regards, Ned.

I thought that too Ned but a wartime bullet hole or postwar? Probably not on the guy at the time or we should see some claret stains.

Maybe, maybe not....? I don't think the lack of blood neccessarily means it couldn't be so, the only real fact we can take from it is we'll probably never know.
