    Default A Tragic Soldbuch

Wanted to share a few pics of a Luftwaffe Soldbuch I recently added to the collection.

Paper items is not something I usaully don't buy but this one really got to me.

This very interesting and tragic soldbuch was issued to Friedrich Peters, an Unteroffizier-anwärter (Non-Commissioned Officer Canditate) who started his military career in October 1941 with a Signals Company in Norway where he was stationed until 1942 when he was sent to Semlin (Zemun, Serbia) to train as a Bordfunker. He was then sent of to the 8. Staffel of Transportgeschwader 2 where he served as a Radio Operator aboard a Junkers Ju 52 where he flew transport missions from Brindisi, Italy to Corsica and was awarded to Radio Operators Badge.

Friedrich met a tragic end on September 24th 1943 when his Ju 52 was shot down above Corsica. On the last slide you can see the last entry in this soldbuch: ”Gefallen am 24.9.1943 Im Luftkampf Vor Korsika” or ”Fallen on September 24th 1943 in air combat off Corsica”. He was just 20 years old.

    Thanks for looking, Tobias.

I absolutely do. There is nothing more intersting then having a piece of history like this.

The 24th September 1943 was a bad day for the transport units - 15 aircraft were lost over the southern front from TG-1, TG-2 & TG-4 with TG-2 losing nine of those.
Along with Peters was the pilot, Unteroffizier Negele who was killed and the Bordschütze Obergefreiter Jäger who was wounded. The aircraft was a Ju-52/M with the Werk Nr 10018 and the reason is given as Bordwaffenbeschuß (Fiendbeobachtet). The Allied units involved were 39, 272 & 603 Squadrons RAF, all of which were equipped with Beaufighters.
