Ha ha ha, thank you for the compliment Katmandude, I’ve had a lot of help myself along the way, so I like to add things/help out where I can. Honestly you do an amazing job with the translation and deciphering of your documents, equally as good as me, plus your presentation is top notch too! I really appreciate seeing your collection, so thank you for sharing another great example with us.

I had a search and found some information about his regiment on the day he died. They attacked towards a forest 1.5 km south west of Oserenskij (which tallies with the Volksbund and casualty card information).

    No problem Sir.

    Cool, I’ll take a look.

I’ve picked up little research techniques along the way. Often it’s worth checking the Volksbund (German war graves site) because they have additional information (like a place of death) that can be used to search for specific battles etc.

For example with this Wehrpass I searched using the place of death from the Volksbund (oserenskij) and his regiment and found the information about the attack in the 14th of August.

Here is a link to the Volksbund -

Nice WP Katmandude, I always find them interesting, each is unique and personal. Great help from Wilmore to find an account of the battle in which Alfons fell.
