Here we have a wartime Wehrpass to a soldier who was trained as a telephone operator and served in infantry units, first in Germany and then in the east.

The Wehrpass was opened on the 28th April 1939 in Detmold. Reinhold August Konstantin Horlacher, who was a conscript (wehrpflichtiger) was born on the 3rd of November 1907 in Lemgo. Lemgo is a small town in the Lippe district of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, 25 km/15 Miles east of Bielefeld and 70 km/46 Miles west of Hannover. He was a travelling salesman (Reisender Verkäufer) by profession, his religion is noted as evangelical and he was single. He swore his oath on the 18th of June 1940.

    Service-
Initially he served June to July 1940 with 6./ Nacht. Ers. Abt. 2 based in Stettin. July 1940 to November 1941 he served with 1./ Nachrichten-Abteilung 175 of the 75th Infanterie Division. December 1941 to February 1943 he served with Infanterie Regiment 172 (on the 15th of October 1942 it was renamed - Grenadier Regiment 172), also under the 75th Infanterie Division. The division was active in the Belgorod area until August 1942, then from September 1942 to February 1943 it was active in Russia (Woronesch). On the (2.2.42?) he was injured, broken bone (knöchenbruch) and it looks like he had an accident while he was in hospital (Unfall Lazarett), so stayed there until (19.5.1942?). On the 2nd of February 1943, the day after promotion to Unteroffizier, he was killed in an air attack.

**** I’m not sure about the injury dates because the stamp is covering them. Based on the award of the wound badge in black (9.2.42), the first injury date of (2.2.42) makes sense.
