Wow! I have never seen this list. I'm going to spend the night now looking up the codes on the few soldbuchs I've got. Thanks alot. I love this site. Better than a candy shop or a hardware store.

    Hi Ade,

Where does one find these numbers in a soldbuch?
It might sound like a stupid question, sorry about that.

    Thanks,
    Neil.

Hi Neil, there is no such thing as a stupid question. Always ask as that is how we all learn.

Any wound entries are made on page 14 or 15 which is where any hospital admissions are entered into the Soldbuch.

Here is a useful website for those such as yourself who want to learn more about the Soldbuch and what was written & where:

    Hope this helps?

    Cheers, Ade.

    Hi Ade,

    Thanks, all helps!
I added scans of the relevant pages, but the Soldbuch has no signes of wound codes? Also, page 2 has no date, can one still find out when he enlisted?

    Thanks,
    Neil.

Thought that this would be a handy place to post these two scans which show the full listings for Medical Defect Codes. These are not the codes that were generally used for Soldbucher (although some may be the same in both these & Soldbucher tables) but more for other medical records.

While the Medical Codes for the non-Naval Wehrmacht Soldbuch entries are well known thanks to threads like this and various books, what are much less well known are the medical codes used by the Kriegsmarine, which extended way beyond the usual 36 - for instance, for the usual medical code entry '16' the KM had sixteen different definitions! The same could be said for numerous other examples so that where the usual medical codes went up to 36, the KM's went up to 196! Not many people know where to find the definitions for these KM codes which can be frustrating when trying to decipher KM Soldbucher.

So please find attached images of some pages from a 1950's publication called 'Die Krankheits Nummern Der Ehemaligen Wehrmacht' which not only provides the Medical Codes for different eras from 1896 to 1945 but Column 7 provides the codes & definitions for the Kriegsmarine, and alongside it in Column 8 is the more commonly known Wehrmacht codes which is useful to compare the two.
