Hi Neil.
I can't get any names and can only say the post card is addressed to a Mr and Mrs.
Völkermarkt in Kärnten (Völkermarkt in Carinthia)
Völkermarkt is a town of about 11,000 inhabitants in the Austrian state of Carinthia, the administrative capital of Völkermarkt District. It is located within the Drava valley east of the Carinthian capital Klagenfurt, north of the Karawanken mountain range.
Volkermarkt - Wikipedia
I had a look and found some information on the Gebirgsjäger units stationed in the town.
Gebirgsjäger replacement troops in the town of Völkermarkt -
Ergänzungs-Bataillon Gebirgsjäger-Regiment 139
Gebirgsjäger-Ersatz-Bataillon II./139
Reserve-Gebirgsjäger-Bataillon II./139, 5.-10. Kompanie
Stab./Gebirgsjäger-Ausbildungs-Bataillon Völkermarkt
Standort Völkermarkt
3. Gebirgs Division did take part in the invasion of Norway, but didn't fight in Italy. It is possible that he transferred to another Division, for example 5. Gebirgs Division which did fight in Italy.
3. Gebirgs -
3rd Gebirgsjager Division - Feldgrau
5. Gebirgs -
5.Gebirgsjager-Division - Feldgrau
Kind regards,
Will.

Will, thanks for the input. I think you are on the right track. It appears the Sani started as a junior NCO involved in training, moved up to Oberfeldwebel and wound up a Leutnant. This is based on the photos from the book. The spread of post cards include images from Norway and Italy. A jump from 3. GJ to 5. GJ does make sense. Neil
Papa Kiser sent this info;
Gebirgs-Sanitäts-Kompanie 68 / 3. Gebirgsjäger Division was stationed in Völkermarkt.

For those interested, here is the medical unit being sworn in - probably at their home base in Austria. NH

Found this small photo in the book. It appears to be General Dietl.

That's Dietl for sure - Very Cool!
He was adored by the troops under his command...
