I love the way those drawings were painted in hand by the original owner of the album.

U.S.Army ? WW 1 ? string band music
A brilliant photo and the only one I know of showing that badge in wear.
A little information on the badge can be found in Vol. 4 of David Littlejohn's "Foreign Legions of the Third Reich".
Littlejohn refers to it as the Wehrsportabzeichen [= Military Sports Badge] as well, but mentions that is was sometimes also called Leistungsabzeichen [= Achievement Badge] in German documents.
He goes on to state that this was the Romanian-German equivalent of the S.A. Wehrabzeichen, that 1,039 awards of this badge had been made up to 1943 and that any German could enter the required tests, irrespective of whether he was a member of the E.S. or D.M.* (just as in Germany one did not have to be a member of the S.A. to be eligible to enter for the S.A. Wehrabzeichen)
* Romanian-German equivalents to the Allgemeine SS and the S.A., respectively.
More from my album of 10. J./R. 64.

Close ups of the officers. I like the crusher style visor cap.
Very useful that the original owner of the album had written the names of these officers. If other collectors have photos of these guys they can identify them and give names to their photos.

I like the MG photo.
Note the straps on their helmets. They were yellow or red and were worn on the helmets during drills.
