Hi Bill, only officers caps had silver piping to the crown and turn up.
This is an enlisted mans cap and has the addition of pink waffenfarbe piping around the turn up. Very non regulation and not so often seen. So the Feldwebel would have plenty to talk to this man about...
These non regualtion piped caps tend to be seen early war. I have seen Luftwaffe caps with this too.
Cheers, Ade.
Thanks Ade, I definitely agree that this is an early war pic and uniform.
Unfortunately my concerns about originality of the photo paper were correct. I cannot match the serrated edges, and the edges are reacting to UV light. This is the first pic Ive been burned on in a while! the seller had not shown the edges/reverse in the sales ad....so I took a gamble and lost.
I know it is an EM cap, But this is pretty risky to go for the somewhat "officer's look", or do you think he was just simply trying to customize his feldmutze? I would think the latter.... Makes you wonder how they got away with this!? (i would love to see a LW example!)

Nice image,Bill. Too bad the paper's no good. Oh well, we all get bad ones once in a while. The fakers are gettin pretty good nowadays.
Adreas, Thanks a lot for the help translating the last images I posted. I dont know what we would do without you on this awesome thread Bill started! I could even make out some of the letters, let alone words, written on the back of some photos I have. Therefore I wouldn't be able to use Google translate! But it takes a trained eye and a fluent speaker of the language in question. So, CHEERS to Andreas!

thats awesome Chris, Akropolis was a killer spot for the troops to take pics at! Glad you found those, it should be interesting to see if you can pick out any locations that are known to you....

I'm so excited. I have just been offered by a German friend a nice lot of a Luftwaffe soldat who served in Greece during the war. There are 120 pics in there
I will post them one by one as soon as they arrive.
Nice pick up Chris!
Look forward to seing them.
Ralph.
