Photo of RKT Hans Strelow
Hi there, I would like to share this picture postcard of RKT Hans Strelow, Luftwaffe Ace. He received the award two days before his 20th birthday making him the youngest recipient of the Oak Leaves.
His plane was shot down in Russia on 22 May 1942, and he committed suicide to avoid capture by the Red Army.
Nice thing about the card is that somebody has writen a text on it, and I think it is period. Although the seller told me it was his autograph I found out before I bought it that this was not the case. But I paid 12 euros for it, so I'm not bothered about that, I just like the postcard.
Must be thousands of these printed in the war, no clue howmany are still around.
I'll put in in a picture frame and enjoy it!

Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader
