I owe a HUGE thanks to friend Rod after he sent me a ink related to my extended great Uncle who wo went MIA in September 1945 ~ AFTER VJ day in the Milne Bay area ~ as pilot of a C47 Cargo plane along with 17 others on board ~

I had not seen this feature ~ Never Knew details of these separate reports on the incident. I do have his entire service records.

Lt Eric Beer was an extended member of my Mum's family ! He joined the RAAF in 1939 and had an extensive record and flying hours ~ He was well qualified in many many planes ~

Mentioned in Dispatches and survived a sea crash landing along with his crew for 48 Hours before being rescued ~ and served with the RAAAF 30th Sqd. which was heavily involved with the Battle of the Bismarck sea, combined with USAF the RAAF 30 Sdq. inflicted HEAVY casualties on the Japanese fleet ~

The rather pathetic part of this battle was that the US and Australian crews were ordered back out to sea to strafe surviving Japanese soldiers in Life boats ~

Command deemed these survivors to be a high risk ~ and their survival could well inflict of even more casualties on Australian and American troops in land combat.

This radically effected many of the crews !

( But as one report told years alter a former pilot told how he was in a Pub in Melbourne post war and he got talking to a couple of Diggers and when they heard or realized he was a member of the 30 Sqd. Beaufighters ~ on of them HUGGED him ~ which was unheard of by War veterans back then ~

And the former Digger said ~ "THANK YOU Mate ~ If you had NOT done what you Blokes did ~ we would likely not even be here today~"

Which of course went a LONG way to the former pilot's relief from that burden!)

But Flight Lieutenant. Eric Beer~ transferred to C47 air freights 33 Sqd.

A fabulous if not Melancholy report/ read ~ This tragedy was one if not the last WWII period Air crash of 33 Sqd. which has not been fully resolved.

( A good read detailing the efforts to confirm the located wreck!)

    Brief Summery ~

AN AUSTRALIAN payroll plane that went missing at the end of World War II with 19 people on board might have been found in just 20 metres of water in Papua New Guinea.
Divers in Milne Bay have reported seeing the remains of a twin-engined plane in the exact same spot pinpointed by documents that were recently uncovered by an aviation historian in Canberra.

Now a diving boat skipper, who has found other plane wrecks in PNG waters, is planning an expedition to find the missing plane.

Historian Bob Piper said the RAAF Douglas C-47 took off from Gurney airstrip at Milne Bay just before 10am on September 11, 1945, with pilot Flight Lieutenant Eric Beer at the controls. It was bound for an airfield near Lae on the north coast.

On board were three crew and 16 passengers including Lieutenant Noel Williams, a former Commonwealth Bank employee carrying a payroll of more than £2000, the equivalent of $500,000 in today's money.

Tells How to Make Simple Remedy to
    Darken Grey Hair at Home.

Sister Hope, a popular beauty special-
ist oí Sydney, recently gave out this
    advice about grey hair:-"Anyone can
easily prepare a simple mixture at
home, at very little cost, to darken
grey, streaked or faded hair and make
ft soft, lustrous and free of dandruff.
Mix the following yourself to save un-
    necessary expense:-

To a half-pint of water, add 1 ounce of Bay Rum, a
small box of Orlex Compound and i
ounce of Glycerine. These can be ob-
    tained at any chemist's.

Apply to the hair a couple of times a week until the
desired shade results. Years of age
should fall from the appearance of
any grey haired person using this
preparation. It does not discolour the
scalp, is not sticky or greasy, and does
    not rub off."

A VERY rare find "in the field" ~ we speculated as to why this would be found as I did ~ 100% intact. if it was dud there is NO WAY even the hardest but the crazy would Attempt to defuze a High Explosive shell~ NO WAY ~ Death wish stiff!

Australian WWII - Far North Queensland Metal detecting and recovery

So a closer examination suggests that either the fuse was not secured/ screwed down or the threads on the fuzer or the HE shell case were not best quality and the Fuze has exploded setting of the TNT and ejecting the fuze. before crashing to ground ~ but even then the case is in amazingly good condition ~

A Not so good ending ~ the Jack Knife ~but did not expect the best result after al the Knife has been sitting ina steel mug alongside the bottle for < 70 Years>
