Yep, Map, I think my helmet total for this season is 7, one of those a SS lid, gonna make a post about that find one day soon

I was going through a box with finds from this summer and I discovered a piece of some knitwear. It was crumbled together and full of soil. While I was brushing it clean I remembered that I had dug this up together with a helmet and not taken any notice of it. Now I realized it was a set of homemade earmuffs to wear under the cap or helmet. A really cool find and it is pretty neat that the woolen item survived completely intact

Those ear muffs are a one of the coolest things I've seen. What a spectacular find.

An ingenious work of knitting and quite practical too boot.

This guy was probably the envy of the battalion on those cold winter days

Love it.

Most people wouldn't believe that those ear muffs existed.

But here is the evidence, these were made for the freezing cold weather by a very clever/thoughtful soldier.

I bet these will be copied now, as original, and put on E-bay..

But, what a super, interesting "find", an absolute eye opener.

It just shows how much is still "out there", waiting to be to be discovered.

Could you put up a map of the area you frequent, so we can see where you are?

Here is a map where I have marked what region I am searching in, it is basically from the Polar Circle to the northern part of Troms where I live now, a huge area

Inka, was that area around Troms heavily occupied by the Germans?

Yes, it was the build-up area for the Northern front in Finland and Litza/Murmansk, and it became a fortified area from 1944. Here was large number of troops and enormous storages of equipment. And the coastal area specked with fortifications while German submarines and battleships were lurking in the fjords

Also the withdrawal from Finnmark and Finland went through here.
