Falaise Gap Relic

Article about: I found this relic in a field near to the Normandy village of Chambois about 10 years ago. Over the years I have found lots of items during my trips to Normandy and this was just another pie

    Here are a few more items that I have found whilst wandering around the Normandy countryside.

    3cm flak shell
    Both me and Martin Bull each picked one of these up from a field very close to Moissy ford

    A screw off fuze igniter from either an M39 or M43 German grenade

    This is one up for debate as I've read various theories as to what these tags were used forFalaise Gap Relic

    This is the sort of find that gives me the most satisfaction as it was once part of a German soldiers personal equipment. It's part of the spring latch from the leather strap of a canteen.

    This is the remains of a Luftwaffe loading tag, when loading equipment into the aircraft for transportation (Ju52), these would signify the type of equipment being carried within the containers, whether it be fragile radio kit or weapons etc. During the battle for Stalingrad such tags were used as indications as to whether wounded were to be evacuated or not, I believe.

    Yes, those are the theories that I have heard of before. I have also read that they could be loading tags that indicated the weight of items carried on aircraft
