Hi Glenn,

Yep, you are It is the badge of the Reichskolonialbund, the organisation charged with promoting German interests in her former colonies (that were lost after WW1). As far as I know the Southern Cross was used to symbolise that many of these former colonies were in a part of the world where this constellation was visible. For example, Africa.

The organisation was done away with mid way through WW2 as it was deemed not to be essential to the war effort.

Interesting that such a badge exists. I never thought I would see the Southern Cross on a badge like this.

And New Guinea~ which was also a German Colony but Australian forces eliminated Germany occupation at the commencement of WWI.

Yeah ~ there was documentary made / shown last year I think on History channel about the Aussies taking the radio station up there and it was obviously one of Australia's first conflicts of WWI ~

Don't quote me ~ but I think there were some 4 Australians KIA there ~

It was the same day that we found the belt buckle Luftwaffe soldier...

Stalingrad: digging near Gorodisсhe & Gumrak

We found a small bunk near the dirt road. During the Battle of Stalingrad there was a "road of death" - from airfield Pitomnik to Stalingrad.

In the bunker there was one body of a Soviet soldier (nameless) and four bodies of German soldiers. All German soldiers didn't have dog tags.



But one soldier was shod in mountain boots.





He was from a 100th Light Infantry Division (Jäger Division) and they fought on the Mamayev hill and the Red October factory.







I also found an aluminum belt buckle GMU in good condition.





it was an interesting excavation. The bodies all soldiers delivered to the memorial cemetery...

Great find Sebastien ! I have never seen a pair of Mountain Boots that were excavated before this.
