The gates of hell were opened and we accepted the invitation to enter" 26/880 Lance Sgt, Edward Dyke. 26th Bn Northumberland Fusiliers , ( 3rd Tyneside Irish )
1st July 1916
Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader
House Carles at the Battle of Hastings
Thanx...
Hi Sebastien
I don´t know. His dogtag says "1 kav ers abt 11" and some other papers says
"he.pi.batl.742". I´ve read somewhere that this batallion was at some point in Poland. I read in your thread that "2 kav ers abt 11" was in Stalingrad and I know from my grandfathers biography that he escaped in a boat from Russia in May - 45.
Do you know where 1. kav where stationed or where I can find out?

...and if someone can identify the beret on the last picture, will get eternal glory
