Trench item?

Hi everyone,
Was this item used in the construction of a WW1 trench. Or has anyone any idea what it is? The length is approx 7" long. Thanks for looking.

It would be hammered into logs to keep the logs together when building bunkers , bridges etc from logs

Agree, had the same thought, most likely a type of Log Dog.
