WOW, that is in ROUGH condition, the eagle and the SA button seem to have been removed or pulled out at some time, JMO, I dunno if this is worth pursuing, others will chime in for sure soon..
I'd rather be A "RaD Man than a Mad Man "
Agreed, its seen better days! Due tio wrinkling above on handle the shrinkage of the wood has been dramatic which might give that effect, interesting observation and hypothesis though so thanks for contributing.
That dagger is in junk condition. The grip damage is not just shrinkage of the wood - Something else has seriously screwed up the wood. The blade is roached.
It also might be that grip eagle is fake.

Walk away from this one. PJ.

I agree also ...as it has seen its better days.
Not that it makes a difference due to the bad condition...but that letter "M" on the crossguard could be the 2nd letter of a few SA gruppes....or an upside down " W " ( Wachtstandarte ) ....aka Feldhernhalle. Ultra rare SA Gruppe and not mnay of these seen.
It would be worth a look in the pinned SA gruppe marks list to see what SA daggers had ben observed to have this " W "
I cant say this could be the mark on the lower guard as we do not see any photos of it and also Gebr Heller ( Schmalkalden ) has no listing of it. Even if it were true.....the value would barely increase due to the overall bad condtion of the dagger.
Just a tid bit of history and info on the M or W letter.
