Thanks, it's fun and every time you find something out there it makes you learn and educate your self on the different items you or someone else collects.

Not much wrong with that... We can't all afford the best on offer. Some of us have (small) pensions to live on!

Early Scabbard..which may have been matched to fill a production quote..or a recent replacement. Regardless the dagger and scabbard are from the TR period..and with RZM M/72 1942..being the end of SA production..i have to say you have a decent find being the last SA year. The dagger itself has what appears to be Mid period wood. Guards and tang nut are late period. Overall a decent dagger for the price you paid with a mismatched scabbard.. Early SA scabbards are a piece of Gold to have..and I would advise to hang onto this one. Regards Larry

Thanks Larry, do you think it may be a parts dagger? The guy I bought it from his dad was in the Navy and won it of a GI in a card game, I guess on the way back to the states. I have a m35 Heers helmet in my collection that was also won in a card game a sailor won it off a GI, I guess the Navy was better than the Army when it came to poker.

The possibility does exist..and technically it could be..like I said ..either assembled during the period..or a more believable story about winning it in a card game..which the dagger may have been put together from parts found in damaged factories. Who Knows.
A parts dagger will be comprised of different guards and a different blade..from separate periods..along with the scabbard itself..not being from the same period....the nice part about this dagger is that the scabbard is all early..and the dagger itself is all late.
The possibility of the SA Mann losing the scabbard or damaged..... getting a replacement for it also could be.
Yet for the SA type collector what is desirable ..is having a whole consistent dagger. Best Larry
