I'm a young collector who has just recently started purchasing antiques. I found this SS dagger on auction for $360 just a minute ago. Its looks are captivating, and it appears to be similar to that of a Leader of High Leader dagger, according to the show journals by Tom Wittmann. I would like your help on this as if it is authentic, I would love to purchase this piece for my collection. Thank you all for your time.

Gun Broker is notorious for fakes, some originals but way off realistic prices sometimes, if this were real I would expect a (6) digit price tag, JMO..

    Hi Zoglet.

It is better you will save your money and do not bid for this junk dagger, it is not real one. Real Himmler honor dagger is way more than 360$

As you are new collector, I recommend you to read some books and you can find lots of reference if you use forums search engine. Also here at forum have good thread about reference books, you may wanna hava look: Daggers, Swords, and Bayonets of the Third Reich

Thank you, sir. I did more research and found the same blade from Reddick Militaria, a known maker of reproductions. I'm going to keep saving for a high-quality SS piece at the MAX Show. I've seen beautiful SS-Lionhead Swords there, and too many beautiful daggers.

    Best regards,
    Zoglet

Glad you researched here to see the differences ..and if you go to the Max Show..your going to need a little more than $360 US for a SS Honor Dagger. ...Plan on bringing a body guard with you carrying near $130K in cash to purchase one if you find one for sale.

I was thinking of bringing way more. I was just viewing the option with skepticism. Funnily enough, I just happened to find a U-Boat fleet commander's dagger on auction recently too. Might go for it, as it's a true beauty as well.

    Thank you,
    Zoglet

I would wager it would fall in the same category as the one above

The SS-Lionheads can be another "minefield". There are it seems significantly more fakes out there than period originals. Some that are/were in TW's SS book were not immune from fakery either - irrespective if they came from a "high end" collection or not. Likewise some others that were not in book were just out and out fakes with fakers using multiple different techniques to make or convert them. Best Regards Fred
