Without the ".." or umlaut - the word is spelled correctly - Graefrath.... This can be seen with the different spellings of Nueremberg as an example. Now does this mean its a fake? No idea - but in the context of the language, its a correct spelling... Food for thought

Hi Krisse,
I would say it's a fake because it's not spelled correctly.
The F is missing. On the second picture you see GRAERATH...without an F.
So it's a stinker...

Yes, I know, 'ä' is the same as 'ae' but in case you didn't notice, the logo with 'ae' is still missing the 'F'...
So, you mean that when otherwise written, it should be GRÄF OR GRAEF. But this is clearly GRAERATH instead of GRÄFRATH. F = E in this case.
I cannot imagine that the maker Jacobs, changed his logo so badly in the short amount of time these daggers were made...

Thanks Harti, that is what I'm trying to point out here.

The "F" is also missing on the logo displaying the "AE"/logo with no umlaut issue = GRAERATH ---- so, it's missing a letter AND does not sport the umlaut. I have no idea about SS daggers, just wanted to point out the problem pointed to by the OP when it was misunderstood.

And what about the numbers..for me they look a little bit amateurish...????

Reason to start this thread is to inform SS dagger collectors of this issue. So watch out twice if you want to buy a Jacobs.

Yes Harti, indeed. It looks like that but I saw numbered daggers before that were numbered like this...

oops - didn't see the missing F, as I didn't expand the picture...

Gents a little bit of knowledge of the German language is needed here.
ä = ae
When you cant type a so called "umlaut" then you can replace the " by an e
That means you either type Gräfrath or Graefrath, both are properly spelled.
That it misses the F in the logo is of course not done....
Regards,
Ger
What concerns me even more is the fact that it has a SA crossguard with the gau mark still in it.............
