SS Dagger ~ its like a grail quest
Hiya all,
This my first post.
Have been trying for about 6 months to purchase a genuine ss dagger, just missed out last week bid £800 on a proxy bid and it went for £850 ! Arrrgghhh
Thankyou to all the contributors on this site by which I've managed to save myself hundreds from the myriad of fakes out there,
this one;-
up at auction tomorrow for £100 ! haha.
I texted the auction house they told me it was 1936.
I asked if that was definate and they sent me a photo with the RZM mark and m7/36 ???
I text back and said if I bought and confirmed it was a reproduction what protection do I get?
strangeley enough, no reply?
This is in a certfied auction house!
Anyway, thanks again to you all i'm sure there's many who are indebted to your advice eben though most dont register or log on.
My search...... continues!!!!

Re: SS Dagger ~ its like a grail quest
Well, welcome to the forum!
A few points to take on board
Loosing to a proxy bid is probably the best thing that has happened to you
1. If it's from an auction house chances are it's not a good one
2.ding ding, round 2......... what the hell is that abomination with the runes on it?
3. I can tell you straight awaythe SS has a fake blade on it
4. If you want me to expand the spine on the blade is too pronounced (probably a Rex Reddick blade)
5. A real "untouched" one is fetching close to 1800, not 800 ( do you want a babe, or a dog)
6. There's no such thing as a free lunch
7. Buy from a reputable dealer, there are plenty around
Happy hunting

Re: SS Dagger ~ its like a grail quest
Hi, welcome to the forum and thanks for the kind comments.
The dagger shown is an older Spanish made fake. Note the poor quality insignia in the grip and also note how high up the grip the eagle is placed.
I can only agree with John's comments.
The other thing is a broken K98 bayonet with fake SS helmet decal applied to the scabbard. The decal is fake due to the shape, too pointed at the bottom.
Save up and buy a decent example for a dealer who offers a meaningful guarantee. Expect to pay between £1,500 and £1,800. Don't go bargain hunting, chances are it will end in tears.
Cheers, Ade.

Both of those appear good so far. But as usual more pics are needed to confirm.
Cheers, Ade.
