Don't think it's the original paint and there is Silver paint added in the pitting
Small piece of the liner band still in place, every thing else is rusted away.
Quite sharp in places as well..

Nice helmet, the paint looks Original to me.
I don't know where the Silver paint has come from? (2nd picture from bottom).
Is the helmet made of PURE Silver? (Yippee!)
What colour is this grey - Feld Grau/Field Grey?
Paint is standard feldgrau to me based on these photos.
Really can't see clearly as to what is in the potmarked holes.

The effects of time and patina can also have an effect on paint and in some colours darken it.
Yep, it's clearly silver paint in the pitting, may be previous owners added it?
The silver can also simply be the metal after cleaning. If it has loosened rust in the pitting, some people put putty in it to counteract the process. You see this more often with helmets found in the Ukraine.
