    Hi Everybody,

I want to show you my relic M35 DD ET64. During World War II it went through some front repairments: the factory apple green color had been repainted, got a new liner - dated 1943 -, the chinstrap was replaced by a Hungarian one and its owner put a rubber band on it - its remain is still visible around the shell.
It was found in a Northwestern Hungarian village many years ago, where Germans fought in March 1945, so this helmet had a long career.

I bought the helmet in this condition from its finder - in parts. The shell had been cleaned and waxed but the liner and chinstrap was my job as they became dried during the years. Now I am here at this step and the next is to put it together without taking out the liner band- I know this is not an untouched helmet anymore but apart from this I am trying to get the maximum out of it.

    Cheers,
    DS

Still in nice shape. All might not agree with me but I don't mind the wax coating.

Nice relic - and nice little grouping with the can.

On a helmet such as this with advanced oxidation I personally think it’s ok to apply a wax. I’ve used Renaissance Wax on badly oxidised shells as it helps prevent moisture uptake and provides a protective coating.

Could the remains of the "rubber ring" be the remains of a liner from another helmet that had been stacked on this one?
It looks like it was a lake find - I have seen similar finds on the net that the mud preserves well.

Nice to see the remains of the decals. Honest looking relic. Congrats

Thank you for the good words Guys. About wax - personally I would not apply on every condition but for relic it is OK in my opinion.

The helmet was found at the attic of the local pub there but this was the only find. Maybe you think it is a lake find because of the outlook of the liner’s leather part, but I applied Nivea on it to make it softer as it was dried out and was hard like a rock.

Another helmet from the same village, exactly from its surrounding forest - an M40 in poor condition, in the size of 62. It was laying on the ground, maybe a fallen tree took it to the surface or just been there for decades. After cleaning with oxalic acid a little color came out from the outside of the shell.

At least its original without a doubt!
