Relic Battle damaged M42 SD Russian front

Hi everyone,

Just got myself a M42 battle damaged M42 SD helmet on a military fair. I believe it was found on the Russian front because I found a small fragment of Russian newspaper on the inside. Probably used for packaging. Grave schrapnel impact on the front and top of the dome. Part of the decal (10%) still there. A grim reminder of warfare.

I'm curious if it was white washed due to some paint spots on the inside of the rim. What do you think. I'm thinking about cleaning it carefully because it was cooked in candle wax for preservation. I think I can make the different color layers more visible. Any tips?

The white paint on the rear inner rim is the remains of the owners name that he painted on, I used oxalic acid on my relic helmets and it always worked good, made the decals and paint really pop out, check out the restoration section and you can find alot of info regarding oxalic acid.
