Helmet decal?

We need to see the entire helmet. At first glance, this appears to be a deliberate effort to obscure a fake decal. NH

To add. Below the scrubbed decal it looks like bare metal that is "fresh" and the tan paint looks like it was sprayed yesterday.

The outcome looks grim to me.

I can imagine this being exposed sanding back a post war paint-job - but I cant work how you could then see such a crisp wing tip against the tan...?
And then there's the cracking showing what appears to be a grey undercoat in the cracks??? ..... so no warm fuzzies here either!
