I bought this flag last weekend and on the back it says:
Sgt. E. Price
Battle of Mian
Island
Sept. 1945
Or at least thats what I can make of it. I kind of guessed at the last name, it looks like Price. There appears to be something after 'island' but im not sure what it is, the first letter looks like a 'P'.
I cant find any information on a Mian Island, or a battle there in September of '45. And the Japanese surrendered in August of 1945, right? So would there have even been a battle of Mian Island in September?
I would assume that anyone trying to forge something like this would have picked a more famous battle (Iwo Jima, Guadalcanal, etc) to put on the back of the flag.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated, my knowledge of the Pacific theatre is very limited, and I've come up with very little on the internet so far.
