It's a good length. It's another indication that this is not a Showato, which are usually found a little over 26". Not that 26" is bad. It's just the way Showato set up for all around purpose.
I used word "another", because the length alone is not enough to determine anything.

I must admit it does look that way, it must be the light as there is no groove. One assessment thinks the blade has been shortened, is this likely?

He did say Bo-utsuri, so he meant grooved straight blade. But there is no groove at all..

I don't know about this. He's a professional. If he thinks the blade is shortened, the chances are he is right. Of course, he's working under a handicap. If it turns out he's wrong, it's understandable.
