I believe there was an ideal standardized color called "National Defense Color" (Kokuboh Shoku 国防色), but owing to materials, dyes, irregularities, etc, it ended up like "feldgrau" which is kind of a catch-all term for colors on German tunics:

The color on winter Type 3 uniforms was almost always a dark green/brown. Some later production winter Type 98 uniforms were similar in color, but the majority should be more of a khaki.
