Navy's official helmet designations discovered

Article about: I have found a navy memo from 1932 defining their use of the terms Type 1-3 helmets. Perhaps that also answers the question Scott had about the "heavy shipboard" models. I have add

    Grey was the color between 1932 and 1939, but coloring before 1932 and after 1941 are not covered in the material I have. Anyway those are the last facts I can add on this matter.

    Very nice. Looks fresh out of army stock in 1932. I suppose many of the 1700 sold by the army to the navy were these older models. I also suspect that the 3rd model of cherry blossom helmet with Type 90 features were also all supplied to the navy.
