Please help identify this sword!

Article about: My grandfather sent this home when he was in WW2. It stayed in his attic until he passed. I now have the privilege of taking care of it. I would appreciate any information you could provide.

There are a bunch of guys on the Nihonto forum of NMB that could likely tell you more about this sword.

Thank you Russ. I intend to keep this in the family and pass it to my son eventually.

Guy - Thank you ! I appreciate the time and information you provided! I looked up Kunihiro - It says he made swords in the 1500's / 1600's - Would two bladesmiths make one sword? I thought it would be one smith - but please excuse my ignorance.

    Thank you again!

No, just one smith would make the blade with help from apprentices. There are generations of Kunimitsu; also perhaps other smith that use the same name bu of other traditions. When I looked up the name I saw about 15 of them. You’ll need someone versed in “Nihon-To” Japanese Swords.
