OK. Thanks Bob for all your help! I have another sword coming next week. I will post pics when I get it. Question: I have 2 Jap flags that have wording in Japanese all over them. If I were to send you pics, would you be able to translate them? I'm not so concerned about names as I am in places, dates, etc. I just want to see if the flags make reference to the place they were located or anything else important in the research of the history of the flag. If that's OK, just send me your email address and I can send pics (or I can post a thread with pictures of them on this forum...makes no difference to me). My email is: excalibr67@charter.net thanks again!

I disagree and think it is Yoshichika and not Yoshimichi.
吉近 = Yoshichika.
昭和十九年十二月 = 1944 December.

Agree with Kiipu. Sadly Bob is no longer here.

吉近 吉岡鉄次郎 S18.04.26
- Smith name: Yoshichika
- Civil name: Yoshioka Tetsujirō
- Registered with the guild (licensed?) : Showa 18 [1943], April 26
From Markus Sesko's Japanese Swordsmiths:
- YOSHICHIKA (吉近), Shōwa (昭和, 1926-1989), Gifu – “Yoshichika” (吉近), real name Yoshioka Tetsujirō (吉岡鉄次郎)

And a Gifu stamp for the record.
