    Default Bayonet Identification help

    Hi all,

I'm a newbie here - I wonder if any of the experts may be able to help me identify this bayonet that my late Dad brought back from WW2 - he died when I was a kid and I found it after he died. I recall my Mum telling me she thought it was Italian, though what looks like an Eagle on the blade makes me wonder if it's of German origin?

    Thanks in anticipation

    Austrian/Hungarian (Kuk) M1895 bayonet for NCO´s

    OEWG means: Österreichischen Waffenfabriks-Gesellschaft, Steyr

That's the Austrian Coat of Arms on the blade, so in this case it shows Austrian military acceptance. The NCO bayonets are rarer than the standard ones, so a nice bayonet. The troddel hanger is often missing.
    Cheers,

Thanks chaps! I’m curious how my Dad came by it now as he never served in the ETO - he was in Egypt before the war then East Africa and Burma during the war!?

One probable explanation is that some Italian auxiliary troops (colonial soldiers) in East Africa were issued with WW1 Austrian captured weapons, such as Steyr-Mannlicher M95 rifles and related bayonets.
