Morning everyone,
found from the warehouse fund of an old shop, here is a small but interesting item that recalls a significant aeronautical episode of the 30's.
It is a jacket pin, made by the well-known manufacturer "FM Lorioli & Castelli" in Milan, of the "Crociera Aerea del Decennale" (Air Cruise of the Ten Years); a cruise organized to commemorate the ten years since the founding of the Regia Aeronautica, which took place between 1 July and 12 August 1933, on the Orbetello (Tuscany) -Chicago-New York-Rome route.
Twenty five airman crews participated, on as many Savoia Marchetti S55X seaplanes, in command was the Maresciallo dell'Aria Italo Balbo, a very important member of the Fascist Government.
The pin reproduces the image of Italo Balbo's personal seaplane, I-BALB code visible under the wing.
