Good evening!
this buckle is the highlight of my collection, some people call it "hammerhead", others say it´s just an early unmarked SS buckle! Quite rare item...!

Nice buckle Max, and like you stated a very hard buckle to come by, another "Hens teeth" buckle lol
Ben
never seen one of those before,,,thanks for posting...
Hello Max
Indeed, quite a rare SS buckle.
It is an early SS buckle which is still the subject of debate as to whom the maker was and perhaps if Jean-Pierre passes by this thread, he could add his comments.
Attached are images of the one that I hold, although in comparison to yours, quite dreadful as an earth excavated example.
Comparing the two, I think that the strike and the closing of the box is the same. Note the small rectangular shape between the eagles legs, the shadow under the eagles right wing (facing) and of course, the large box ears.
Our buckles differ by the pin shroud and claw arrangement, although there are known examples of this buckle with a totally different type of catch.
A rare SS and no wonder that it is the highlight of your collection.
Regards,
David

I perused the threads of SS buckles on here and I have to say that this is my favorite variant. Thanks for posting!
Good evening!
I hope JP can tell us something about the producer of this buckle! Maybe he reads this thread...!
