Re: Early SA M17 helmet
Nice pot Chris, I'd say it has a great chance of being an early SA. Congrats.

Re: Early SA M17 helmet
I know bugger all about SA helmets, but the patina of that overpaint gives it credence, and as Andy say's, a great chance.

Re: Early SA M17 helmet
Chris, are there any maker marks ? for example "ET 66"............Similar shade of brown used by Austro-Hungarian forces in WW1.
Prost ! Steve.

I was not able to find any markings the brown paint make it hard to see.
The paint is a very heavy tick paint. The brown color is the same has the one I posted.
the Austro Hungarian helmet color is more brown green color (mustard)

Re: Early SA M17 helmet
I think it has a good chance. I suppose its hard to say 100%. With helmets like these you either believe it or you don't. I believe it.

Re: Early SA M17 helmet
The WW1 camo under the brown paint would be something that they would have done.
They used what ever helmet they could find.
The color of the shell is right on of SA.
But no guaranty, still a very different helmet.
