Re: Fake German Steel helmets
I see what you mean, the DD had always seemed a bit ridiculous in some ways, its been a few years since I last saw these pictures and I had thought the decals had been painted on at the time as they looked so different from the authentic ones. Thanks for the advice, its safe to say it'll be a while before I can start looking into buying SS helmets though

Re: Fake German Steel helmets
Haha, good one.
Those pesky pirate firemen travel in packs and show up looking for trouble at the merest hint of a lit match!
Like your avatar BTW Very fitting for a relic forum

Re: Fake German Steel helmets
HI There and Welcome, from the pics it appears to me to be an early pattern Eagle which wouldn't seem right on a 42 lid but i could be wrong, difficult to tell the authenticity but the Decal itself looks like an add on just my opinion, the chinstrap looks good to me, hope some others can Help you out.

Re: Fake German Steel helmets
To me it looks like a restored relic helmet. I am almost sure it is. The chinstrap could be good, but the one i have does not have the brown cracks. Maybe artificial aging. All this put aside i am almost 100% sure this is a restored relic helmet. Pic 7, 8, 9. Norwegian liner?
Welcome to the forum mate

Re: Fake German Steel helmets
I don't have much knowledge on Luft decals, but there is something about this one... It looks like it has been very dirty and then cleaned up, for example been in a swamp and fished out or something. The liner looks very strange to me, and the rust on/under the wire looks a bit new. In my opinion, it has been artificially aged. I would wait for other opinions though, as I might be wrong.
EDIT: Did not see the recent replies.
Datrus: Not a Norwegian liner/Norwegian dyed liner, it looks very aged.
Best Regards

Re: Fake German Steel helmets
Ok Vegar. But the helmet is a relic lid i am sure. I did not even notice pis 6 until now. Look at the edge of the skirt. It's a relic helmet for sure.

Re: Fake German Steel helmets
I agree with Lars, restored relic lid. The edge is e giveaway, any you can see it under the paint. To me it look like a black wash ha been applied to the blue to age the paint. The decal is the 2nd patter but looks like a fake from he picture, but would prefer a full shot of it. Don't like the liner shape either.
Cheers
Jason
