    Friends,

I would appreciate some help and opinions on this one. I'd like to add a winter camo to my collection, but I know they can be a minefield when it comes to authenticity of the paint. The overall look of this one seems legit to my eye, a far as that goes - but better eyes than mine can judge; it compares well enough with some of the dubious examples posted here in the past, I believe. Although the advert states: "An anti-reflective layer of greyish varnish is applied over the white paint." Is this odd?

It appears to be a thin white-wash layer over a thick brush-applied field-grey repaint, showing the brush-strokes through the white; the interior shows the original smooth green factory paint. No traces of either re-paints to the inside from what I can tell. The shadows of both decals can just be made out under the re-paint layers.

These are the photos from the dealer, so the best we have for now. Thanks for looking!

Edit: lot no. is 3251, with the name 'Nolte' painted over it followed by a Feldpost (?) number. Interestingly, I'm sure I can see a lightly struck number '2' in the steel directly below the lot number, between the '3' and '6' of the Feldpost number.

Anybody care to hazard an opinion? Most camo helmets are somewhat subjective, I know, and tell best in the hand, but until then...

The number appears to be a Feldpost, all I can add

    19336 (Mobilization-1.1.1940) Stab mit Nachrichten-Zug u. Vermessungs-Truppund 1.-3. Batterie leichte Artillerie-Abteilung 233
    19336 (2.1.1940-27.4.1940) Stab u.1.-3. Batterie leichte Artillerie-Abteilung 233dann Stab III u. 7.-8. Batterie Artillerie-Regiment 233
    19336 (25.9.1940-15.2.1941) Stab III u. 7.-9. Batterie Artillerie-Regiment 233

The advert states: "233rd artillery regiment (combat against British troops in Norway in 1940 and later- Eastern front). The helmet is signed: Nolte. FP 19336 A, respectively, Stab III. Abteilung 233 Art Rgt, headquarters of the 3rd Battalion of the 233rd artillery regiment of the Wehrmacht."

    Thanks for the info!

Agreed, its Fpn on the skirt, the A being the 1st Batterie/1st Kompanie if it was assigned after November 1944. I like the helmet overall, I don't see any reason for doubting the whitewash but sometimes these are better seen and handled to be sure.

Absolutely, but not possible in most cases, alas.

It does look nice based on these photos.

Note: This isn't whitewash. This is paint.

Oh, I thought it was a thin coat of white-wash showing the brush-strokes of the first field re-paint underneath.

See above the liner pin. I guess you're right though, on second look.

I could be wrong. But it doesn't look like lime based whitewash. The chips and cracks lead me to believe it is paint. But again, happy to be wrong

Here is my white washed example.
