    Hello friends,

I would appreciate any opinions on this M42 camouflage painted helmet coming up for sale. To me the overall patina and wear to the paint just feels right - a far cry from those awful fake camo jobs one so often sees. However, I know camouflage helmets are a minefield, so I will defer to better judgement than my own.

M42 shell stamped 'EF66, 1748'. Chin-strap marked '44' to the rear, no maker. According to the seller the liner may have been replaced at some point (?) - which raises the question: the camo paint covers the liner pins as well, indicating a later paint-job - but how much later? Reasonable to assume an earlier manufactured M42 got a new liner and a nice camo spray some time after issue, in the field perhaps?

From these photos, I'm not feeling any depth or age to the camo paint.

Really? I thought it had quite a nice faded patina to it... Perhaps the photos aren't good enough. Here's the link to the better high-resolution shots:

Thanks the Photos on Ratisbons are nice and big.

I'm 50/50 on it. I still am not convinced. But camo's are all about opinions. So I'm sure others may feel differently. But I'm happy to be in the minority.

Just read the description. It is messed with to begin with.

    Description
A German M42 helmet with a khaki and green 2-color camo paint which was sprayed to the shell. About 80% are still present.
    Decals: no decal applied
Lining: Flexible leather lining. Still soft. Orginal cord. 58 size stamped.
Prongs: Opened once. The liner might have been re-attached.
Chin strap: "44" dated. Attached at a later time
Markings: EF66 to the reverse of the shell

Like Michael from the photos not one I would buy at an auction , truth be told I never buy from auctions.
