Hello Gentlemen..

You all were right ..
Trying to find any information on the owner of this helmet has been an extremely
daunting task to say the least..
I have poured over 3k records and counting...

I think I have found something that may have brought me close ..
but then again...
I have ran across a death certificate that is intriguing ..
However the rank does not match what's on the helmet..
I have been told that it could have been a field promotion and was not put thru because the owner had fallen
and also , I may be wrong but I thought the practice of marking the name and rank in the helmet was stopped before
the Russian campaign...I don't know ...ugh..
If any of you could make out anything on this certificate
that would be of immense help as my knowledge of sutterlin is elementary at best ..

Please let me know anything on this ..

I can't read it but doubt the "battlefield" promotion theory. What is the rank on the death card? 1st Lt? If so, then he probably would have had his Lt rank in the helmet. Unlikely he would have suddenly decided to paint his name in the helmet, in the field right after a battlefield promotion.

Just my thoughts and opinions. There is no way to really prove something like this. It's always possible, but I think it is improbable.
