Identifying postwar repainted M40 helmet

Hi all! Some time ago I acquired a steel helmet, postwar repainted. After the war it was sandblasted and repainted yellow by the Norwegians for use in "Industrivern", and later horribly repainted by someone with green paint, which someone has also been attempting to remove... The liner metal seems to be original, but not the leather. Maybe the chinstrap? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this is an M40 helmet.

Out of interest, I would like to know, is it possible to find out what color this helmet was originally and what decals it did have?

(And if anyone has any ideas, should I finish removing the green paint that someone started to do, and how can I do this?)
The markings seem to be the following: 142 and (E)T66. See the pictures attached. Thanks!

I think you have this one figured out. Post war use by Norway and then horribly painted green. It is an M40 and the liner band is original but not the leather. The chinstrap is not WWII German. I would certainly finish stripping the green paint, being careful not to damage the underlying yellow. That configuration is collectible in its own right and I'd leave that as is. No way to know what it was during the war but odds are it was a SD Heer simply because there were more of those than anything else.
