This one arrived earlier in the week, from Dave S. It is an M16 shell, a BF 62, that has had a few incarnations. The inner dome retains a coat of brush applied green combat paint. The exterior is traditional Luftwaffe Blue Grey paint, brush applied up to the liner band on the interior of the apron. The liner is a leather banded M16, which appears to have been TR period applied when the helmet was reissued to the Luftwaffe, as brass rivets secured with washers were used to fasten the liner as was done with TR period helmets. The Adler decal is a very early straight leg droop tail styled bird. What really caught my eye on this one was the placement of the bird and the tri color, both of which are set back behind the vent lugs and applied at the break between the dome and the apron. Certainly not mint, but rare and an odd ball, which is what I like. Hope you do too, Jim G
I was wondering who nabbed that one Jim, just a great rare piece and who else but the person with one of the worlds best collections of rare helmets! Perfect pickup bud!
