Picked this one up on eBay for a decent price, but it didn't have a chin strap nor a leather (only the pins were left), both were added by me.
Luckily I had a fitting late war pig skin leather piece with Schuberth markings at hand.
The seller comes from near Kleve, Germany and he says the helmet may have come from or participated in the Battle of the Reichswald (Operation Veritable).
I don't think it's far fetched to assume that, it would certainly make sense that this was maybe left behind after the battle or when a platoon surrenered or something.
There's still a few specs of dirt between the shell and liner band so it may have sat around in the weather of spring '45 for a while, maybe on a field after the soldier threw it away..?
Anyway back to the helmet, unfortunately the outside has had some sort of varnish applied which makes it more shiny than it ought to be, but I think it's not too bad.. Might try to remove it though.
The liner is a 1943 Schuberth one and the split pins are unmolested SC (probably 1943) ones.
Couldn't find a dome stamp unfortunately.
Overall I like how it turned out, just the classic M42 helmet pretty much.
