    Hello Forum,

i'm still learing about steelhelmets and the most time i read the threads here. It's disgusting how many fake helmets are out there
So i thought, if you can help me with this M42 from a dutch website.
Sorry for the poor quality, the come direct from the site..

What do you think? I was surprised by the "cheap" price, the most time they sell for double of that..
I find that the helmet is a bit "shiny", but that could be just on the photo. Also i think the rust pitting isn't that beautiful - is it normal?

Thank you all in advance! you guys are the best

    Tobi

p.s.: there is another helmet which i like on the website, maybe i'll post it in a new thread

It is original but looks heavily cleaned to me, there seems to be little to no rough texture left on the outside and on the photo with the lot number there appear to be abrasion marks going across horizontally.
Pictures in natural light might be good to see what the paint looks like because with those pictures it is just shiny and dark, could just as well be the steel having darkened from age for all we know.

Thank you for your opinion, this makes sense to me.
In another picture i saw a tiny little blue layer of color (i think so) so maybe it was painted and then maybe the color was sanded off?

i guess i pass this one..

i will upload another helmet, which looks more used and natural.
To find a good helmet for a reasonable price isn't that easy

    Thank you again

Good photos are Always necessary to be able to give correct opinions.
If these photos come from a dealer it's best to leave it where it is.
It looks like a black painted post war used M42 from these photos.
Check out some M42's on my website here :

Finding reasonably priced helmets is every collectors dream , it does not happen a lot unless you sacrifice quality for value.

    My thoughts exactly.

It would still be interesting to get outdoor photos. My limited experience has taught me that it is very difficult to truly capture the correct color when photographed indoors unless of course you have a high quality lighting set up....and it is obvious that the photographer for this helmet did not have a good set up.

    See this link
