Well, the holes on the one you just posted are rounded like the one that you were asking about. Other than the holes, the OP piece did look good to me. I hate to vacillate but maybe the OP piece is in fact good. It may be worth a shot if the seller will extend a return privilege. The "ring test" really is a pretty reliable test. Jim G.

The above stinrpanzer is made by one of the Krupp subsidiaries.
Krupp was by 1914 already a conglomerate, and had numerous small branches and production facilities in Germany and abroad.

So i guess the question is, why did Krupp had the need to fabricate their own Stirnpanzers and also let them be made by subsidiaries?
So in my opinion the piece is either fake, or very rare because it was made by Krupp itself in maybe limited numbers? Maybe the production was moved to another Krupp related company early on?
A little wishful thinking on my part though...

A good question - and one I have no satisfying answer to.
It is not unlikely that they were produced at several places at once.
I am certain that someone on here will have an idea.

A stirnpanzer should be marked RV and a lotnumber. RV stands for Rhein Metall Viersen. The plates were press under high pressure and not cast. Shown example (first one) is a fake.

That just looks so heavy to wear, holy cow!

I couldn't help myself and tried. Not a very ergonomic design. You need to exercise to gain extra neck muscle. With rapid head movement (left or right) you end up with a whiplash.
