Looks fine to me. It may have seen use in Austria post WW1: the two holes might have mounted an oakleaf spray which was worn by the Gendarmerie.
The paint I don't know. I would leave it be.
Cheers, Ade.
Yes probably had a badge on it,nice condition.
Hi Ade
I am so glad to see you again.Your presence give us hope
Ya! Maybe just keep it as it stands is the better choice.
BTW forgot to mention There is marker like " T ? 66" on it.But it's hard to read
It is my pleasure to try and help where I can.
The makers mark will be "ET" (Eisenhuttenwerk Thale) and the 64 is the shell size.
Cheers, Ade.
Hello there, It seems to be an ET66 and probably the holes are there for the use of a badge, but which one?
The color doesn't stand a chance imo...
Adler
Hi Kevin, the colour is a post war repaint for sure.
I have the book on "History of the German Steel Helmet" by Ludwig Baer. A must for any German helmet collector. This lists all the makers. "ET" was the biggest maker and were involved with the original developement work.
Cheers, Ade.
