Nice example Steve A good date too.
I think good, early items together with matching Urkunden (especially in the case of those badges that were serial numbered) is very much the way to go with DDR badges now that so many, not exactly fake but post period, items are on the market because the combination of cost v effort makes faking less viable with matching badge and document (for now anyway) and any fakes that do appear tend to be easily spotted.
I haven't added any DDR items for a while now as I am a bit apprehensive of getting turned over by the revenue man with items from the EU
Don't think that will stop me for long though

Mark

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing he cares more about than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature with no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."
I tend to barter with the vendor, and if they won't drop the price by 20%, then I leave well alone. Oddly enough, this style of Urkunde does not feature in the Klaus H. Feder book, only the earlier and later are listed.
Cheers,
Steve
Yes I had noticed that as I have a similar Urkunde also dated 1964;
Have we discovered a rarity? I doubt it! I think it more likely that these books on DDR items are just like the TR books of the 1970s which were considered then as Godspel but which are recognised now as naive and less comprehnsive than the "forensic" publications of today.

I'm not sure what the reason is for the omission Mark, but all variations of the Urkunde for the NVA Leistungsabzeichen are shown in the book. This is my 1965 dated document (rather hurriedly taken). There was an early first variant of the Grenzpolizei Urkunde on eBay DE... but the seller refused to budge from his somewhat high 116 euro's.
Cheers,
Steve
