    Hello,

I came across these shoulder straps with the letter ''A'' sewn in them. What are these exactly? They seem to be using the Volksmarine style tresse, and are of the early 50's-60's construction. They do not appear in my reference book.

I can't say as I have ever seen a set like that, but very nice all the same!

    Cheers,

I agree Steve a nice pair. I think they must be Volksmarine related due to the tresse and dark blue piping...maybe something to do with coastal units.

Those are shoulder straps from the Grenztruppen der DDR (border police GDR) from the 60s, exactly between end of 1961 and beginning of 1962 issued to officer trainees in their first year. There are two different kinds of those, one with a metal A and one with a stitched A.
I believe those are extremely rare so congrats on your find ! I have never seen any as they were issued in such a small time frame ( later they had a S instead of the A ).
