The other fellas may be better versed, but from what I know they never wore the camo uniforms.

OK,I'm blind!,
Thanks Rene.
Spot on Rene! The KDA were not NVA but were para-military "militia" of the Ministerium des Innern (Interior Ministry or as we in UK would say The Home Office) and their role was basically internal security in public order situations or ultimately invasion of the DDR (yes they were that paranoid).
So, logically there was never any perceived requirement for cammo patterned kit as grey was best suited to the urban environments in which they would mostly operate. The red ties added a vibrant accent and subtle touch of humanity though (no, wait, that's red for the party right?)
I think it ironic though that in the end when you would expect party logic to have considered it the most appropriate time ever, they were not deployed during the demonstrations of 1989
Regards
Mark

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing he cares more about than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature with no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."
Now all you need is a couple of medals to pin on he tunic!
Cheers,
Steve

Thanks for the confirmation of the decoration being fine to wear with this uniform Mark and well spotted too noticing an example in the picture Rene' posted
Regards James
What about footwear? I notice a lot of photos of the Kampfgruppen they seem to be wearing whatever footwear they had as a civvie, Shoes and sandals etc. Were they issued boots? Cheers.
The decoration is OK James. Have a look at this thread I posted a while back, this is a bundle of documents and medals to Ronald Grolle, commander of kampfgruppe 'Walter Kassner'. It would seem that some of the same medals could be awarded multiple times. The link will bring you on page 2, so you will need to scroll back a page.
Cheers,
Steve
