Volksmarine officer cuff rank placement
Can anyone tell me where the sleeve rank on VM officers jacket is supposed to be placed (x cm up from cuff, etc)? I picked up a jacket that still has the stars attached (that would be above the rank) but there are traces of multiple stitch lines for the actual rank so I'm assuming these are likely from previous promotions? It appears any previous rank was either handsewn or the lining opened. There are no stitch holes in the sleeve linings.
Thanks

In my tunic, the distance between the trade badge (star) and the rank stripes is 1,5cm, while the stripes are 7,5cm from the edge of the sleeve. It would seem to be about that much in every tunic. On many tunics I've seen these badges being hand sewn.

I can only reference NATO uniforms. Typically, regulations will specify rank as being so-many cm or inches from the cuff and then the branch insignia being a set distance above that.

Yeah. It's just that sometimes badges are incorrectly re-sewn after the fact by other collectors, or regulations change over time.

Thanks for providing the measurements off your jacket! I heard from a friend and his Oberleutnant zur See jacket has the cuff rank 8,5cm from the cuff (measurement from cuff to lower edge of the gold rank, not to the blue backing material). HIs jacket has the same 1,5cm spacing from the top of the upper rank to the lower edge of the blue backing for the star (or branch).
What rank is your jacket?

No problem! It's for a leutnant. I took another look at it, and mine has the stripes slightly skewed, so from one side it measures 7,5cm, but from the other side it's closer to 8,5cm if you measure directly from the stripe and not from the backing material.
