I too have never seen one with a monochrome coat of arms, interesting too is the yellow in the centre panel has faded to almost white. I'd say a cheapo tourist item!..

Looks like fake flag for sure. As Paul has stated it is some cheap and low quality item.
Best regards,
Franko

Lol, no need to demean the item so badly, suffice it to say it is probably an economical tourist souvenir. Franko sounds like he is describing one of my girlfriends from my youth " cheap and low quality." Just joking

You are right, it is a cheaply produced polyester flag and possibly fake. The print of the coat of arms already suggested this.
But it is made of the same kind of polyester as some of my GDR flags.
I bought these polyester GDR flags in East Germany in 1989/90 and they are 100% GDR made. They are typical cheap Eastern Europe productions of that time and not tourist souvenirs. I even have a GDR flag which was made in Czechoslovakia in the 1980's.
In other words, a US flag does not have to be made in the USA. The same applies to a Romanian flag.
But where can this flag come from? Would they, for example, want to sell this flag in souvenir shops in Romania?
I can always cut a hole in it.

Hello, I ve seen in last years, on ebay RSR flags made in GDR (seamed very good ) but Romania does not import such flags especially after 1980 because of we had to pay our national debt so all must go to export. In Romania before 1989 do not seen Polyester flags to sell for tourist that are low quality and in the souvenir shops were only very good quality items. There is a possibility that this is an old GDR made and sold there for tourist or even for events, like state visit of Nicolae Ceausescu to GDR .
