These multi part construction buckles are usually pre war in date.

Any link to a POW camp or reception centre Mark ?? The field may be full of them !!
I was using an old police buckle to practice with my MD prior to digging trips i wondered where it had gone

Thanks for the replies guys. The field is not in a known area of a POW camp but my old school was directly opposite one believed to be used by Italian POW's so perhaps I should do some serious research as the area is still an open space.
